For Ruby Dean

Ruby, dear old friend,
when I was ten,
I danced for you.

Today you are way above
and camellias bloom outside my room.
Still I think of you.

Every red cardigan I see
shines like your face
when we ran over to your place
to sing some songs to you.

You gathered red and white blooms
glorious camellias for our mother's room,
but she is now there with you,
and all of life shines through
singing, dancing and flowers.
